President Kennedy's Visit in 1963

On September 27, 1963 President Kennedy came to the Pacific Northwwest and gave a speech on education and conservation at the joint convocation of the University of Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran University at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Washington.

Two months later, on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, President Kennedy was assasinated. The PLU Archives has many photographs and documents relating to the President's visit to Tacoma.

"Materials collected by the office of President John F. Kennedy's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, concerning President Kennedy's remarks at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Washington. In his speech the President explains how an educated citizenry help solve many of the challenges facing the country, specifically that of the conservation and development of natural resources.
