The University Archives and Special Collections is committed to collecting and providing access to historical records of Pacific Lutheran University, the Scandinavian Immigrant Experience, the Lutheran church in the Pacific Northwest, Pacific Northwest history, and rare books. These records are largely unpublished and are collected because they are important evidence of the functions and histories of these organizations and people.
The University Archives and Special Collections serves as a resource center for the study of the history of Pacific Lutheran University, the Scandinavian Immigrant Experience, history of the Lutheran church in the Pacific Northwest, and Pacific Northwest history, and rare books. In pursuing this mission, it will
- Collect, organize, preserve, and describe records of permanent administrative and historical value for the purpose of documenting the history of all the collections noted above;
- Provide facilities for the retention, preservation and research use of such record;
- Provide information services to assist university administrators, faculty, students and other users of the University Archives and Special Collections;
- Serve in a public relations and outreach capacity by promoting knowledge and understanding of the origins, aims, programs, and goals of the collections.
