General note

Cross of Christ evolved during the summer of 1964 as a result of a merger between two Bellevue churches: Lake Hills Lutheran and the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Lake Hills Lutheran was officially organized with 80 charter members on February 2, 1958. The church at 707 SE 159th Street was dedicated on October 5, 1958. On September 10, 1961 the first service of the Lutheran Church in February of 1963, resulting in the existence of two ALC churches less than two miles apart. On June 22, 1964 both congregations approved the merger and agreed that the newly formed church be incorporated under the name Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. The merger became effective October 24. Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new church were held August 7, 1966. First services in the new building were held March 8, 1967, with dedication occurring on April 23, 1967. Dedication of the new office/classroom building was held Pentacost Sunday, May 17, 1970. Groundbreaking for a new addition was held April 25, 1982, with dedication taking place on November 14 of that year.
