Doug was a member of the Pacific Lutheran University Crew Team from 1969 - 1973. Later, as a coxswain for a pair of rowers, Doug won the Bronze Medal in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles at Lake Cacitas. He was invited to the White House to meet the president after he won the Bronze Medal.
