Dr. Schnackenberg’s work as a graduate student. Included are: papers and tests on European and American history, a copy of the Ph.D. preliminary examination for Schnackenberg (1949), schedules of examinations (1950), a college calendar for graduation at the State College of Washington.

Extra Teaching Policy

Materials regarding the policy to restrict outside teaching by faculty members and Dr. Schnackenberg’s role as the head of the committee considering the policy. File includes: Schnackenberg’s response to Mortvedt’s formulation of the policy, correspondence between various administrators and faculty members, questionnaires for faculty members, the final formulation of a policy on extra-mural activities, and returned surveys.

Faculty Questionnaire

A questionnaire drawn up by Dr. Schnackenberg as the representative of the faculty to the Board of Regents to survey faculty opinion about various aspects of the university. File includes a regular copy and the score copy.

Faculty Resolutions (Confidential)

Materials documenting the conflict between faculty members and President Wiegman in 1973. File includes: a request for Faculty Opinion and Information created by Schnackenberg, the tally of the survey returns, memo with the results of the questionnaire, correspondence regarding the result of the survey and the subsequent actions of the faculty, the “President’s Message” at the PLU Corporation Meeting, and resolutions of the Corporation calling for the appointment of an acting President. This file is denoted as confidential.

Family Correspondence (Confidential)

Correspondence from Dr. Schnackenberg’s daughters including letters from college, a telegram of congratulations on The Lamp and the Cross, Christmas cards, Christmas lists, handmade Fathers’ Day cards, and personal letters. This file is denoted as confidential.

Family History

Materials regarding the genealogy of the Schnackenberg family (1970-1973). Letters are primarily from Eva (Schnackenburg) Sudlow who initiated correspondence in an attempt to advance her research on the family’s history. Also, included are sketches the Schnackenberg Wappen (Crest), a general history dating back to the medieval times, and photos from her travels related to this research.

Final Copy of On Studying History

Includes a bound copy of Dr. Schnackenberg’s history primer, On Studying History, with the inside message of: “Privileged papers in preparation for publication. Reproduction in any form is prohibited without permission of the author.”
