John August Johnson Autobiography

"Memoranda of Events in the Life of John August Johnson from childhood days to the age of 82, 1879-1969"
The manuscript discusses John’s childhood and young adult life in Sweden, the jobs he had, and his immigration to America in order to earn a better life for himself. It also tells about the working conditions in the early 1900s, construction in Seattle, and church life and changes. His wife’s family is described, as is his children’s families.

George W. Scott - "Scandinavians in Washington Politics"

A typed research paper by George W. Scott entitled, "Scandinavians in Washington's Politics Research Paper," likely written for a Pacific Lutheran University course. Inlcuded is an extensive bibliography.

The paper is a narrative history describing the political achievements of notable Scandinavian politicians and political organizations since the 1880s. This history also gives an account of the scope of larger, national politics and trends. At the end is a brief summary of political movements in which Scandinavian-Americans were especially involved, data related to geographic distribution and political affiliation of Scandinavian political leaders, as well as a list of bibliographic sources listed as endnotes, and a map of Western Washington and Spokane congressional districts.

Jens Fredericksen Svinth Autobiography

A recollection of Jens Fredericksen Svinth about his life growing up in Denmark, becoming a Christian, immigrating to America and building a life here, and includes information about his children and their lives and families. It is a 14 page photocopy of a document typed in 1924 by Jens.

A bound anthology of histories of various family members, divided into chapters with a preface from 1994 by the creators, a preface from 1949 by Professor Emil O. Ellingson introducing the “Pioneer Stories” written by his Uncle Ole. The an introduction, “Pioneer Stories” by Ole Lokensgard describes the origins of the family and discrepancies in spelling. Additional accounts include, "Grandmother Helga" by Olga Thompson, "Sigrid’s Story" by Sigrid Ellingson, “Pioneer Stories: A Continuation” by Fritjof Lokensgard, “My Father Mikkel” by Norris Lokensgard, “Christmas in Pioneer Days” by Knute Lokensgard, “Knute’s Story” by Ruth Larson and Beverly Williams, “Reminiscences” by Oluf Lokensgard, “Remembering Olina” by Norbert Snyder, “The Lillegard Writings” by Lars Lillegard.” Following these biographies are: Items of Interest – Hallingdal, Items of interest – Lake Prarie, and genealogical information for the descendants of Ole and Helga Lokensgard. The biographical accounts are written largley as first-person narratives and replete with personal anecdotes and rememberances, photographs, copies of personal documents, recipes, and genealogical records in the back.

Jonas Olson family papers

Consists of a manuscript describing the Olson family’s history beginning with Jonas (born 1831) and his wife Anna Britta Hed (born 1835). The manuscript talks about their lives as immigrants and pioneers in Minnesota. History about their daughter Josephine and her husband John Olson and their personalities and their children is also discussed.
