Misc. Materials Collected by Mortvedt (1976-1982)

This file contains miscellaneous materials collected by Dr. Mortvedt during his retirement including a program from Peninsula Lutheran Church in Gig Harbor, programs from the Rotary Club Banquet honoring DR. Mortvedt, and the program from the centennial celebration of Platville Lutheran Church.

Mortvedt Leaflets (1960)

Assorted Leaflets with short speeches and/or written messages by Dr. Mortvedt on topics ranging from concerns about Christian Colleges and Higher Education, service and community involvement, religious communities at college, and other miscellaneous topics.

Mortvedt Library (1963-1977)

Materials regarding the planning and building of Robert A.L. Mortvedt Library including the following: pamphlets on the "Program of the Long Range University Specifics" (PLUS) plan, a thank you card for donors, memos on planning the library, choice of and correspondence with Bindon & Wright as architects including architectural sketches and personal notes, "The Program for the Proposed New Library Building at Pacific Lutheran University" ( a report by The Librarian, Frank H. Haley), statements on the purpose of the library and how it will be built. Also included are minutes of the "Committee on Dedication of Library,” an excerpt from the minutes of the Board of Regents in which the library is named Robert A.L. Mortvedt Library, planning documents for the move of the collection the new library, Vesper Service on November 23, 1966 to move the first books across the threshold, and a biography of the keynote speaker, Dr. Jaroslav Pelikan. There is an invitation to the dedication, program for the dedication including a symposium: "Learning Resources in the Expanded Role of the Robert A.L. Mortvedt Library, informational statements on the library, and materials from the tenth anniversary of Robert A. L. Mortvedt library including the remarks of the keynote speaker, Dr. Jaroslav Pelikan, "On the Social Uses of Solitude", and Dr. Mortvedt's remarks.

National Conference of Christians and Jews (1978)

File contains information about the National Conference of Christians and Jews including awards banquet request recognizing Dr. Mortvedt, Rabbi Richard Rosenthal, and Reverend John V. Sneeringer by the National Conference on Christians and Jews. Also included are newspaper clippings, correspondence, seating arrangements, awards program, the conference program, the introduction of Dr. Mortvedt and his response.

News Releases (1965-1980)

News releases from both PLU and the American Lutheran church highlighting certain activities during Dr. Mortvedt’s PLU career, including his inauguration, the building of the library, and convention attendance and speaking engagements. Also included are news releases regarding the acceptance of Robert A.L. Mortvedt Library as an associate membership in the Center for Research Libraries and the Outstanding Humanitarian Award from Lutheran Social Services of Washington, given to Dr. Mortvedt in 1979.

Obituaries (1991-1992)

Obituaries, newspaper clippings, memorial service church bulletins, and statements by Dr. William O. Rieke to faculty, regents, and staff in regard to Dr. Mortvedt’s death.

Other Academic Materials (1922-1942)

Yearbook 1922-1923 for St. Olaf College where Robert Mortvedt was a member of the Intersociety Oratorical, a program from a dramatic performance at St. Olaf, program from Augustana College Baccalaureate, copyright registration from the Library of Congress for “Let’s Talk About Literature,” and poems by Philip Gran.

Personal Property (1974-1982)

Inventory of property for insurance purposes and materials regarding a shawl Dr. Mortvedt acquired while studying abroad. The shawl was given to the Seattle Art Museum and materials in this file include correspondence, appraisals, and newspaper clippings.
