Misc. Materials Collected by Mortvedt (1976-1982)

This file contains miscellaneous materials collected by Dr. Mortvedt during his retirement including a program from Peninsula Lutheran Church in Gig Harbor, programs from the Rotary Club Banquet honoring DR. Mortvedt, and the program from the centennial celebration of Platville Lutheran Church.

Correspondence with friends, former president of Bethany (Emory Lindquist), Lutheran Mutual Life Insurance, The Bethany Press, Dean Hadley, and President Dwight D. Eisenhower regarding the omnibus farm bill. There are also memos from the Board and correspondence to and from Dr. Emory Lindquist.

Memos from President Mortvedt to PLU faculty members (1962-1967) Subjects include chapel attendance, university objectives, long-range planning, personnel issues, and evaluation of faculty and tenure and retirement policies.

Lutheran Home Project (1978-1980)

File contains materials about Mortvedt’s attempts to establish a Lutheran Home for the aging and his involvement with the Board of Governors after its establishment. File also includes correspondence, speeches, and clippings.

Inauguration Preparations (1962)

Correspondence concerning Dr. Mortvedt's inauguration. Included are discussions about the design of a presidential medallion, invitations to the event including a letter from Dr. Mortvedt to President Nathan N. Pusey of Harvard University to address the University Congregation, and inaugural notes for the committee and lists of people to be invited.

Inauguration Materials (1953-1954)

Newspaper clippings regarding Dr. Mortvedt's election as president and a statement for the News-Press written by Dr. Mortvedt. Invitation and program of the inauguration of Dr. Mortvedt on November 12, 1953. Also included is a statement by the Lutheran Kansas Conference outlining the duties of the president and the inaugural address given by Dr. Mortvedt.

Inauguration Correspondence-Personal (1953)

Congratulatory inaugural letters from friends, colleagues, fellow university Presidents, public school administrators, the Kansas State Department of Public Instruction, the Board of Education of the American Lutheran Church, the president of the Augustana Lutheran Church, the Board of Christian Education of the ELC and other church related organization and corporations. Also included are copies of Dr. Mortvedt's responses.
