Capital Campaign Murdock Grant (1978)

File includes copies of report, “Developing a Perspective for the Future,” presented to M.J Murdock Charitable Trust as part of efforts to secure a grant with the tagline, “To share in the strength of science.” Also included is a brochure and informational report about the Hoko River Archaeological Project—a project of the Department of Anthropology at PLU.

Cheng Du Souvenir Books (1985)

Two copies of a souvenir book (one paperback and one hardbound) from Dr. Rieke’s trip to Cheng Du, China. Books contain inscriptions to Dr. Rieke and Mrs. Rieke and are full of photographs from the region.

Major copies include: Rieke’s resignation from UKC to accept PLU’s presidency, various speaking engagements, the controversy regarding Rieke’s desire to push religious ties, building projects and PLU expansion programs, and other important university issues.

File contains materials about convocations from the later part of Dr. Rieke’s presidency. Included are convocation programs, memorandum and news releases, information of involved parties, copies of Rieke’s addresses and the prayers, information about faculty promotions, and other issues.

Correspondence from the beginning of Dr. Rieke’s presidency at PLU including numerous letters from Lucille Giroux (Director of University Relations), responses to reporters and journalists covering his Inauguration and first months, correspondence with different PLU administrators and community/business members, and other university-related business.

File includes correspondence from a wide variety of community businesses, non-profit organizations, church organizations (including the American Lutheran Church), and alumnus.
