Karl R. Rickabaugh (1938-2014), academic year 1997-1998. He taught at PLU from 1975 to 1998. Dr. Rickabaugh earned his bachelor’s degree in education at Montana State College in 1963, his master’s degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Utah in 1970 and his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology Counseling Psychology from the University of Utah in 1975. He passed away June 10, 2014.

Rotary Scholar Rachel Peitsch ('98), a native of Astoria, Oregon, earned bachelor's degrees in Scandinavian area studies and political science at PLU and served a Rotary Ambassador fellowship in Bergen, Norway, doing graduate research of the agricultural trade at the University of Bergen. Later, as a student at the University of Oregon School of Law, she was awarded a Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship

Susan Mackin Boe ('84) wrote a high school text book titled "Total Health Choices for a Winning Lifestyle". Boe graduated from PLU with a bachelor's degree in K-12 physical education and, according to an article in the Scene (v. 28, no.14), was inspired in part by the PLU Physical Education Department.

Katherine Maloney ('00) was one of 316 students (nationwide) to win the Goldwater Scholarship. A chemistry major, her winning essay was titled "The Influence of Terminal Atoms on the Magnetic Properties of Copper Halide Dimers" and she was assisted in her research by chemistry professor Duane Swank.
