Materials related to Dr. Schnackenberg’s involvement in the Lutheran Student Association. File includes: various newsletters, program suggestions, preliminary preparations for ASHRAM—the annual meeting, officers roster, materials for installing officers, committee and officer reports to the LSAA, questionnaires, copies of SCOOP—a newsletter for LSAA officers and staff, various educational materials, memos on upcoming meetings and workshops, meeting agendas, minutes from meetings, a handbook for personnel of the 1957 Lutheran World Federation Assembly, etc.

Menucha Lectures - Pacific District Pastoral Conference

Materials from the Pacific District Pastoral Conference at Camp Menucha for which Dr. Schnackenberg was the guest lecturer. File includes: schedule for the conference, a questionnaire for the pastors at the conference, and outline for lectures given at the conference by Dr. Schnackenberg. Some of the themes in these lectures were time, the relationship between primitive and modern thought, the demands of evangelism in the Space Age, secularization, etc.

File includes: a brochure for the Church Music Institute at PLC (1954), a copy of Notes and Nuances—a newsletter from the Choral Union, correspondence on music selections, agendas, minutes from the board meetings of the Choral Union, and a list of musical selections for weddings.

Materials on the Citizenship Clearing House, an organization encouraging the political involvement amongst college age men and women. Materials regarding the Alumni Association. File includes: lists of graduates, an organizational chart, a copy of “Tacoma Progress,” copies of “Alumnus” the Pacific Lutheran University alumni bulletin, correspondence, minutes of board meetings, a copy of “Luther Alumnus,” a pamphlet for non-tax supported colleges, a list of financial contributions, an outline of the Alumni Fund Program, and a copy of the faculty constitution.

Association of Washington Historians

Materials on the establishment of the Association of Washington Historians. File includes: proceedings of the Regional Conference for Northwest History (1948), a copy of House Bill No. 650, a memo summarizing the bill, a statement of organization for The Association of Washington Historians (1973), and a working draft of the constitution for the Association of Washington Historians.

National Defense of Education Act, Modern Languages

Articles and pamphlets on the study of foreign languages collected by Dr. Schnackenberg under the heading “National Defense of Education Act”. File includes: a pamphlet entitled “The Role of Modern Languages in Our Schools” (1956), pamphlet “Factors Involved in Good Modern Language Teaching” (1958), pamphlet “Grammar--Beware!” (1957), news releases on actions taken under the National Defense Act for the creation of foreign language institutes, and a copy of The Modern Language Journal (1959).

File includes: questionnaires for the faculty, inventory lists, minutes from programming board meetings, reviews and proposals for departmental collections, general reports to the faculty and administration, and various memos on the planning, programming, and policies of the new library.

Materials relating to President Wiegman’s tenure at PLU which were collected by Dr. Schnackenberg. File includes: newsletters from Federal City College, memos regarding Wiegman’s election and inauguration, correspondence with Wiegman, Dr. Schnackenberg’s remarks at the inauguration, a copy of the inauguration program, letters of concern to the Board of Regents, minutes of Board of Regents meetings, correspondence between Wiegman and the board, correspondence regarding the resignation of staff and faculty members, faculty resolutions in regards to Wiegman, newspaper clippings, responses by Wiegman, remarks made by Board of Regents member Knudson at a faculty meeting, materials regarding student petition to the resolutions of the Board of Regents, statements by the ASPLU president, and further correspondence regarding the question of the presidency.
