Correspondence (1967)

Dr. Mortvedt’s correspondence from 1967 and contains both personal correspondence and general university business memoranda. Major topics include: Choir of the West tour, Independence Colleges of Washington, faculty committees, academic programs, course auditing, chapel attendance, sewer district, development, and the new library.

General PLU Businesses (1963-1966)

Materials covering a broad range of PLU business including data from Dr. Mortvedt's at Taskforce Briefing Session, information on department curriculums, course proposals, faculty salary information, faculty listings, resumes, program proposals, faculty committee reports, report to Steering Committee of the Academic Self- Study: "Report on Good Teaching," survey of academic achievement and student retention 1964-1968, and memos to the Educational Policies Committee.

Memoranda (1962-1969)

Memos from President Mortvedt to PLU faculty members (1962-1967) Subjects include chapel attendance, university objectives, long-range planning, personnel issues, and evaluation of faculty and tenure and retirement policies.

Mortvedt Library (1963-1977)

Materials regarding the planning and building of Robert A.L. Mortvedt Library including the following: pamphlets on the "Program of the Long Range University Specifics" (PLUS) plan, a thank you card for donors, memos on planning the library, choice of and correspondence with Bindon & Wright as architects including architectural sketches and personal notes, "The Program for the Proposed New Library Building at Pacific Lutheran University" ( a report by The Librarian, Frank H. Haley), statements on the purpose of the library and how it will be built. Also included are minutes of the "Committee on Dedication of Library,” an excerpt from the minutes of the Board of Regents in which the library is named Robert A.L. Mortvedt Library, planning documents for the move of the collection the new library, Vesper Service on November 23, 1966 to move the first books across the threshold, and a biography of the keynote speaker, Dr. Jaroslav Pelikan. There is an invitation to the dedication, program for the dedication including a symposium: "Learning Resources in the Expanded Role of the Robert A.L. Mortvedt Library, informational statements on the library, and materials from the tenth anniversary of Robert A. L. Mortvedt library including the remarks of the keynote speaker, Dr. Jaroslav Pelikan, "On the Social Uses of Solitude", and Dr. Mortvedt's remarks.

Programs (1963-1977)

An assortment of programs for events that Dr. Mortvedt attended and/or at which he spoke. Included programs are as follows: The Reformation Festival (Seattle, WA on October 28, 1962), Eastern Washington State College Commencement (1963), PLU Opening Convocation (1963), Karen Levang Memorial Service (1963), the Joint Convocation of PLU and UPS with John F. Kennedy as speaker (1963), May 17th Festival (Seattle, WA for 1964 and 1977), Madigan General Hospital Intern Graduation Program (1964), PLU Opening Convocation (1964), Baccalaureate Service (1965), Invitation for the reception honoring the Mortvedt's 40th wedding anniversary (1966), GAMMA Spring Luncheon honoring Mrs. Mortvedt (1969), Easter Chapel (1969), The Baltic Nations Day (1968), Dedication of Our Savior's Lutheran Church (Everett, Washington in 1969), The Annie Wright Seminary's 85th Commencement (1969), and a Pacific Lutheran Chapel Service program (1969).
