Correspondence, 1950-1952

Schnackenberg’s correspondence directly prior to his tenure at PLU. File includes correspondence from family, friends, Tingelstad, officials from Augustana College, various churches, and Dr. Eastvold. Some subjects covered within the correspondence are his thesis, musical work, his children, speaking engagements, his work at Augustana, the opening of a position at PLU, his eventual resignation to Augustana, and his acceptance of the position at PLU.

75th Anniversary of Calvary Lutheran Church

The yearbook or membership guide for Calvary Lutheran Church in Hendricks Minnesota in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the church in June of 1952. This text includes brief history about the congregation, information about the building (including the sanctuary), and pictures of various church groups from Sunday school classes, Congregation boards, to a list of confirmands from 1881-1952.

Navy Materials

File contains materials regarding Dr. Schnackenberg’s service in the United States Navy including entrance picture negatives, a physical training manual of the United States Army from 1914, Navy registration forms and travel documents, a certificate of completion for Officer Indoctrination (1944), a humorous certificate of initiation into the "Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of the Deep" (1944), and an affidavit acknowledging his call for active duty (1945), a letter of gratitude upon his release, a certificate of gratitude from Harry Truman (1945), forms related to his status as a member of the inactive reserve (1952-1953).

Materials related to Dr. Schnackenberg’s involvement in the Lutheran Student Association. File includes: “The Role of Study in the Lutheran Student Movement” an introduction to the association by Dr. Schnackenberg, guides for planning weekly meetings, memos on upcoming meetings and workshops, various educational materials, newsletters from the Student Service Division of the National Lutheran Council, constitution by-laws, meeting agendas, officer rosters, a handbook on the organization, pamphlets on the role of the church on campuses, copies of The Lutheran Longhorn, minutes from meetings, etc.
