Northwest Collection in History

Materials related to the establishment of a Northwest History Collection at PLU. File includes: a memo on committee members; correspondence regarding possible location and acquisitions; the master proposal for the project by Dr. Martinson. This file is missing from the collection.

Newspaper Clippings and Research Materials

A variety of materials collected by Dr. Schnackenberg. File includes: clippings on the football team, an inventory of donations for refurnishing, a copy of This Week Chicago (1955), church bulletins, bulletins for the American Association of University Women, materials for ASHRAM, the speech "Education in his Name" by Dr. Mortvedt (1962), inaugural address by Dr. Mortvedt, minutes of a steering committee meeting for the Pacific Northwest History Conference, programs for the Homecoming (1965), calendars of university events, copies of Reflections (1965-1966), a brochure for N-P-D Southern European Tours, speech notes, programs for university events, materials on Banff, musical arrangements, humor, etc.

Newspaper Clipping

Assorted clippings collected by Dr. Schnackenberg. File includes a list of copies of the Mooring Mast found within his papers. The clippings cover events at PLU, development, sports, public education, Spanaway history, the Breezy Point and Ocean Shores controversies, The Lamp and the Cross, the Distinguished Teacher Award, international issues, study tours, etc.

Navy Materials

File contains materials regarding Dr. Schnackenberg’s service in the United States Navy including entrance picture negatives, a physical training manual of the United States Army from 1914, Navy registration forms and travel documents, a certificate of completion for Officer Indoctrination (1944), a humorous certificate of initiation into the "Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of the Deep" (1944), and an affidavit acknowledging his call for active duty (1945), a letter of gratitude upon his release, a certificate of gratitude from Harry Truman (1945), forms related to his status as a member of the inactive reserve (1952-1953).

Navy Correspondence

File contains materials regarding Dr. Schnackenberg’s service in the United States Navy including correspondence about his recruitment and discharge from the Navy. Also includes correspondence about his service on USS Oakland.
