Hjalmar Björk Papers

This is a copy of a scrapbook containing information pertaining to Hjalmar Björk. There is a biography of his life written at the time of his death and five clippings of announcements of his death in Swedish. There is also a sample of his writing which includes seventy-five Swedish poems, six longer prose pieces, and published in the Swedish-American Tribune issues of December 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, and 1964, sixteen original letters of correspondence in both English and Swedish from Hjalmar to his niece Hazel Tanglin along with copies of the envelops sent between the years 1959 and 1963, and a clipping about King Christian of Denmark falling off his horse and recovering.

Martin Ulvestad Papers

Contains an original 1919 leaflet about Ulvestad entitled, Det norke Folks Historieforsker i Amerika (The Norwegian People's History Researcher in America). It is written in Norwegian and includes a photograph of Ulvestad and his family.

Esther Allstrum Papers

Consists of an article on Esther Allstrum from the “Time Machine” section of the “Tacoma News Tribune,” published on 27 September 1981. It includes information on Ms. Allstrum’s occupations and activities.

John Melvin Moe Papers

A collection of letters, some between Reverend Moe and Roland Seboldt of Augsburg Publishing House, others between Reverend Moe and Norwegian author Per Lønning. The letters are all regarding manuscripts and editing. There are also handwritten notes by Reverend Moe: “Astrophe of Angelic Song” sermon, and “Index of Texts” from the Bible. There is also a flier from Augsburg that has the printed chapel sermon “The Adventure of Faith” given by Arndt L. Halvorson, a copy of an article “The Formula of Concord: Witnessing to the faith” by George W. Forell published in the Lutheran January 1978, and the newsletter Insights from 16 April 1978 with notes in the margins.

G. and Klara Holmqvist Correspondence

Consists of a photocopy of a letter and a typed English translation. The letter is from G. and Klara Holmquist to Klara’s sister and husband dated 9 February 1870 from Woodhull, Wisconsin. The letter says the family is in good health but they just survived a harsh winter, and discusses a family friend and sundry other things.

Marvin Johnson Papers

This collection contains a photocopy of a letter from a Gudmund Alfsen along with a typed copy of the letter side-by-side with its English translation. Dated 12 November 1896 from Isvik, Norway, Alfsen relates life back in Norway to his brother living in the Dakotas in the United States. It talks about the family happenings in Norway and about news from other relatives in the Dakota Territory who lost their harvest to hail. Also included is a photocopy (and English translation by Ken Christopherson) of a Norwegian Luther Foundation tract from "Mother" regarding the role of prayer in one's daily life.
