      Reverend C. Rupert Swanson of Vancouver, British Columbia followed Larson as leader of Gethsemane Lutheran Church Seattle, Washington. He was then president of the Columbia Conference. He was instrumental in organizing the Columbia Conference Home for Aged, Lutheran Girls’ Hospice, and Lutherland Bible Camp. Swanson resigned in 1939 to become Regional Secretary of Home Missions. After the death of his first beloved wife he married Miss Effie Frisell. Reverend Swanson died on January 19, 1940 and his widow is still a dedicated, active member of Gethsemane.
