Biographical Note
Dr. Carl M. Roan (1878-1946) was the twelfth child of Ole and Barit Johnson. In 1898 Carl and his younger brother, Allie Christian, went to court in Minnesota and had their surname legally changed to Roen, after the family farm in Norway. Eventually they changed it to Roan, the English spelling. Carl completed his manuscript in 1941 and failed to find a publisher. He gave it to a friend for safekeeping and it eventually found its way to his descendants after he passed away in 1946.
