      General note

In October of 1965 Rev. Warren Pechman came to Sumner with his family to do what he had done once before: gather people into a Lutheran mission congregation. After an extensive area survey, a meeting of interested persons was held on January 6, 1965. Four days later, 113 people attended the first worship service in Maple Lawn School. On October 10, Christ the King was formally organized with 105 adults and 86 children. On September 3, 1966, ground was broken for a new church which was dedicated on May 5, 1968.
