Clearbrook Lutheran Church

This folder contains a congregational historical record, a copy of the annual report from 1975-1976, a bulletin from 1976, a bulletin from the 75th anniversary service, a booklet of history of the church, a booklet from the 50th anniversary, and a booklet from the 100th anniversary.

Services were conducted in various homes in the Clearbrook community beginning in 1897. The first pastor traveled from LaConner by bicycle, train, and on foot. On January 1, 1902, First Evangelical Lutheran of Clearbrook was organized with 17 members. A building was constructed by volunteer labor on land donated by a member. The first services were held in the new church in October of 1902. Initially served by pastors from LaConner and Fairhaven (Bellingham), Clearbrook was officially a Swedish Lutheran congregation of the Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Swedish was the language used until 1921. Clearbrook and First Swedish Evangelical of Fairhaven formed one parish until 1941 when Clearbrook became an independent congregation with its own full-time pastor. The 1963 formation of the LCA and the organization of Hope Lutheran of Lynden led to significant changes.In 1965 Clearbrook and Blaine Lutheran became a dual parish. Clearwater has been independent since 1971.
