Scope and content

Datebooks generally contain brief financial records, addresses, personal notes, appointments, travel schedules, notes on baptisms, weddings, and funerals, and church events such as worship services, ladies aid meetings, congregational meetings, parishoners' requests, and ice cream socials. Through spring of 1915 datebooks include notes on seminary assignments, and during 1918-19 datebooks reflect Foss's experiences as an Army chaplain. Datebooks from 1922-23 include Foss's schedule and notes as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Parkland, WA, and in 1928-29 Foss included notes on the difficulties faced by Spokane College.
