General note
On January 2, 1950, mission developer Homer Berner began visiting prospective members. The first worship service was held on January 29, 1950 with 42 worshippers present. The charter was opened on March 5 of that year with 50 members and closed June 3 with 93. On April 30, 112 members joined in the service of organization. Two months later a property at Hubbard and Marlu was purchased for the first building. Groundbreaking for the present church was held July 10, 1955, and a parsonage was purchased that year as well. Good Shepherd became a self-supporting congregation on January 1, 1962. In November of 1975 the mortgage on the parsonage was burned, and eight months later the church was debt-free. In February of 1977 additional church school space was needed, so the congregation bought a home next to the church to accommodate this need. The space was named “Lamb’s Quarters.” In January of 1985 an extensive remodeling/renovation project was undertaken.
