Biographical Information
Berent and Sørine are the parents of Anne Gurine Berentsdatter Nodland. Anne’s brother Jakob immigrated to Chicago just after 1895. He changed his name to Jakob O. Nodland. He married Anna Louise Stensrud in June of 1901. They had one child, Alice, born 1906. Alice and her father took a trip to Norway in 1924 and visited his brother, Ole Nodland, in Sandes. Ole raised bees in his back yard. During the war, Germans occupied his home. Ole refused to give them honey and he picked apples from the trees to keep them from the soldiers. He also built a contraption made of tin that he wore on his back under his coat to hide milk from the Germans. Ole’s son, Bernard, writes in a letter to the family of Herman Anderson that his father died July 1955.
