Contains the personal papers of. G.A. Anderson including class testimonials, his Bachelors of Arts degree, his marriage certificate, and his obituary. Also included in the collection are important documents such as “flyttningsbevis” and letters of dismissal, personal letters between the Anderson family, Swedish Lutheran Church histories, and church membership lists. Several reports from the early pastors involved in the Columbia Conference and reports from G.A. Anderson and Peter Carlson to the Columbia Conference are also included, as well as numerous talks and sermons written by G.A. Anderson. Also included are financial papers.

Biographical Note

Gustav Adolph Anderson was born in Sweden on October 21, 1854. He arrived in the United States in 1862 where he attended Augustana College and received his Bachelors of Arts degree.. Shortly after marrying his wife, Anna, in 1884, Anderson entered the field as a pastor in Tacoma, Washington. Throughout his lifetime, Anderson organized many congregations and was named the first president of the Columbia Conference of the Augustana Lutheran Church, a position he held for nine years. In the year 1916, Anderson became seriously ill at a relative’s home in Minnesota and passed away.
