Notebook

This notebook contains the following subjects: 179 miscellaneous quotations, 110 quotations from himself, American Language of Flowers (in alphabetical order), a discourse entitled, “The Roman Legion,” precious stones for each month of the year and their meaning, the harmony of colors, language of the fan, glove, parasol, and handkerchief, alphabets translated into the English alphabet (including the languages he writes in), English grammar notes, puzzles and tricks, mathematical puzzles, drawings of angels and cherubs between pages, conundrums, railroad signals and tableaux, plays and games, illuminated alphabets, drawings of ornaments, a small package of illuminated names, an advertisement, and gesture language illustrated and translated.

Master Thesis

File includes two copies from Xavier’s Master Thesis (written in Norwegian) submitted to the University of Washington in 1929 for the Degree of Master of the Arts. One copy appears to be from Xavier’s personal library and the other was from the PLC library.

Holy Bible

A Holy Bible engraved with “Prof. J.U. Xavier” and titled “Holy Bible with Ideal Helps” and “Illuminated Holy Bible: Red Lettered Edition” from 1920.

Diary 1960

This diary mentions that Signe falls ill, but recovers some. Xavier spends much time studying and gardening. When Signe worsens, Paul comes home, but Signe doesn’t get much better. He spends most of his time out walking in the neighborhood. In the back: Insurance card for Giradian Insurance Company, a Christmas card, and the list of addresses.
