      Biographical Note

Johanne Jacobsdatter was born in Arnevig, Norway, on 15 September 1840 to Jacob Halversen and Ragnild Johannesdatter. She was one and three-fourths years old when vaccinated for the chickenpox on 5 August 1842 by G. Gundersen, vaccinator. The certificate declares that she did in fact have the chickenpox and would therefore be protected against this disease in the future. The document was presented to L. Koren, the vicar, in Fjeldberg. Johanne married Abraham Anderson Tofte. She is the great-grandmother of Lawrence Milton Nelson. She died 27 July 1911.
