      Juditha Batalden’s father, Christen Christenson Batalden, was born Christen Christenson Valager. He was born on 31 January 1836 in Hafslo, Norway, the sixth of eight children of Christen Ellefson Neset (1795-1840) and Sigrid Olsdotter Plassen (1797-1888) (Juditha’s paternal grandparents). He was a fisherman. He and Inger married in 1863 and moved to Batalden Islands with her and continued fishing. Christen and Inger emigrated 1886 with two of their daughters and son. Christen filed for a homestead in 1886 near Leeds, North Dakota and his daughter Juditha’s house. He died in 1922 of a stroke.

      Juditha’s mother was Inger Oline Lovise Aleksandersdotter Batalden. She was born on the Batalden Islands on 2 February 1839 to Aleksander Annanisson Skorpen (1808-) and Nele Judithe Bertalsdotter Batalden (1811-1857) (Juditha’s maternal grandparents). She immigrated with Christen in 1886 and died on the homestead in 1906 from paralysis. She and Christen had seven daughters and one son.

      Juditha’s paternal grandparents, Christen and Sigrid, had at least eight children. Her maternal grandparents, Aleksander and Nelea, had at two children.

      Juditha’s paternal great grandparents were Eileve Sjursen Schophammer (1752-1829) and Sonneva Christensdotter Sviggo (1753). They had six children. Sigrid’s parents were Ole Trondson Plassen (1760-1822) and Anna Nilsdotter Kroken (1764-1808). They had six children.

      Juditha’s maternal great grandparents: Annanias Jenson Skorpen and Gjertrud Paulsdotter Schorpiede (1770) and Bertal Nilsson and Anna Malene Nilsdotter Espesot.

      Juditha’s great great grandparents: The parents of Ellev Sjursson Schophammer were Sjur Knutson Hafella (d.1797) and Lisbeth Ellefsdotter (1721-1805). Ole Trondson Plassen’s parents were Trond Amundson Kinsedalen (1735-1803) and Segri Hansdotter Pladsen (b.1735). The parents of Anna Nielsdotter Urnes (Kroken) were Nils Nilsen Kroken (1731-1810) and Unni Johannesdotter Reseland (b.1740).

      Juditha’s great great great grandparents: The parents of Nils Nilsen Kroken were Nils Sjursen Krogen (1675-1743) and Metta Nilsdotter Kroken (1691-1764). They had four children. The parents of Unni Johannesdotter Reseland were Johannes Johanneson Reseland and Kari Arnesdotter. They had seven children, four who grew to adulthood.
