Biographical Note

Martin L. Nesvig was born March 27, 1876 in Hjelmeland, Ryfylke in Norway, and emigrated to the United States in 1893. After studying at Red Wing Seminary, Nesvig was ordained in 1905. He served as pastor in Litchville, North Dakota, from November, 1905, and at Hauge Lutheran Church in Chicago from 1912 to 1922. In 1914 Nesvig married Clara Holland, and in 1922 he and his family moved to Seattle to serve the First Norwegian Lutheran Church. Reverend Nesvig resigned from this position in 1937 to work as a city missionary in Seattle.
