      Mikkel Lono was born August 12, 1892 to Albert Lono in Røldal, Hordaland, Norway. He graduated from Luther College in 1917, from Luther Theological Seminary in 1920, and Princeton Theological Seminary in 1921. He took a job as an assistant pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in Brooklyn New York from 1920-1921. He pastored St. Johannes in Kasson, Minnesota from 1921-1925, Viking Norwegian Lutheran Church in Maddock, North Dakota, 1928-1937, and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Tacoma, Washington 1928-1937. He became Vice President for Development at Pacific Lutheran University from1937-1945. He moved to Michigan where he pastored Grace in Alpena, Leer in Leer, and Spruce in Spruce from 1945-1960. He moved back to Tacoma and was a pastor at Emmanuel Lutheran Church from 1960-1967.

      He married Elvida A. Kraabel in 1925, and they had five children. After she died in 1947 he married Thelma A. Kraabel on June 15, 1948.
