General note

Biographical Note

Oscar Brown was born in Norway on March 6, 1925. He had a family of 10 siblings and he immigrated to the United States in 1925. His desire had always to be a missionary and upon his arrival, he studied for two years at the Lutheran Bible Institute which he graduated from in 1930. His goal for a long time had been to go to Alaska, so he worked until he was able to buy himself a ticket. During his time in Alaska he made a lengthy trip on the Yukon River. During this trip he met many people who helped him on his journey. His story is one of constant trust and guidance from God. While he was in Little Diomede Island he met some Siberian men who brought ashore a whale. This event allowed him to interact with the Siberians. Brown was also crucial in being able to translate the word of God into the Eskimo language. The rest of the story told by Oscar Brown is about the missionaries, mostly Nils Fredrick Hoijer. It speaks of the different missionary expeditions to the Little Diomede Island and some to Siberia.
