General note

The Seward town site was settled and named in 1903, and the first Lutheran family on record, Mr. and Mrs. John Rosness, arrived in 1905 and were charter members of the church. In 1917 a dozen people gathered for occasional worship and purchased two city lots for a church. Traveling pastors from Juneau stopped by twice annually to conduct services. The congregation was formally organized in October of 1945.The first full-time pastor was Kent Spaulding, who served from 1949-1952.
