The history of the Øvre Ulnes, family farm of the Ulnes family, begins in 1528 with the owners Syver and Amund Ulnes. There are no other owners until 1612, when another Syver Ulnes is owner of the farm. He owned it until 1650. Engebret Syversen Ulnes bought a part of the farm in 1641. Nils Engebretsen Ulnes, his son, took over the farm in 1670, and owned it until his death in 1708. Nils was married to Gunhild Toresdatter. Their son Engebret Nilsen Ulnes ran the farm from 1714 to his death in 1733. Engebret married Berit Olsdatter. Their daughter, Marit married Gulbrand Johnsen Granheim, who took over the farm in 1733. Gulbrand died in 1737. Marit remarried with Ole Erikson, and Engebret and his stepfather did not get along well together. Engebret, Marit, and Gulbrand’s son used his alodial rights to get the family farm and he married Marit Eivindsdatter Frigstad from Vestre Slidre. Their daughter Marit married Ole Erlandsson Mo and moved to the farm. His son Engebret took over the farm but moved and left the farm to his younger brother Erland, who married Ingrid Halvorsdatter Berge. Their oldest son Ole took over the farm and married Rønnaug Kjørnes. They squandered the farm and moved to America. Haldor Knutsen Mo married Ingrid Skrøviken and moved to the farm in 1871.
