General note
Bethlehem Lutheran Church was organized October 3rd, 1887 to minister to the Norwegian immigrants in the Portland area. The first church was located in northwest Portland (14th and Davis) and was dedicated in 1899. This building was used until moving to the present facilities in 1935. Bethlehem joined with Our Savior's in 1924 to form Central Lutheran. After fifteen months the Norwegian section (Bethlehem) withdrew to maintain usage of the language.
