      General note

A survey in the summer of 1959 led to a November worship service by 178 people. The survey was conducted by Rev. Frederick Juilfs, who also became the congregation’s first pastor. 110 people signed the charter on January 24, 1960, and on May 1 of that year the congregation was formally organized. Services were held in the Grange Hall of Tigard for three and a half years. Rented quarters made it necessary to transform what had been a dance hall on Saturday evening into a church on Sunday morning. On January 13,1963 ground was broken for phase one of a three unit building plan. The building was dedicated onAugust 11, 1963. On June 1, 1984, with the installation of Pastor Susan Granata, Christ the King became the first congregation of the Pacific Northwest Synod of the LCA to have a full-time woman pastor.
