Biographical note
Clarence Solberg served as Bishop of the North Pacific District of the American Lutheran Church from 1969-1981. Born in Cooperstown, North Dakota in 1915, Solberg graduated from St. Olaf College in 1938 and Luther Theological Seminary in 1942. Before becoming bishop of the ALC-NPD, Solberg served a six congregation parish in Bison, South Dakota from 1942 to 1945; worked as a home missions pastor in San Bruno-Millbrae, California from 1946 to 1950, was Regional Director of the Home Missions Department of the ELC in Minneapolis from 1950 to 1960; served as senior pastor in Green Bay, Wisconsin from 1960 to 1964; and was an assistant to the Northern Wisconsin District President from 1964 to 1969.
In a 40 year seminary class reunion questionnaire, Solberg remembered involvement in Home Missions, participation in team ministry settings, and work with leadership in several Lutheran branches as highlights of his ministry. Bishop Solberg retired on November 22, 1982.
