Westling Family History

This is a family history of the Westling family created in 1984 in honor of the Western Westling’s Family Reunion and Picnic at Spanaway Park in Tacoma, Washington. There is genealogical information covering the family of Andrew Westling and the children of Andrew and Carrie Westling. Genealogical information is also listed for the families of the sons and daughters of Andrew and Carrie. There are also two obituary biography clippings for Andrew and Carrie.

Gulbrand Gulbrandsen Papers

The collection contains a handwritten certification of Norwegian citizenship issued by city judge Halvor Olaus Christensen of Stavanger, Norway to Gulbrand Gulbrandsen. The certification was written on June 2, 1877. Since the document is handwritten, a typed version of part of the content in Norwegian was added to this collection on July 5, 2001.

Newsletters from the Alaska Yukon Pioneers Cabin #1 from 1962. Contains several pages of one text document, and pictures of wooden totems. The newsletter talks about minutes, and the organizations member and their lives. Mentions members that passed away, the officers of the cabin, and some financial notes.

Contains information about Evan Evanson’s early years and family life, education, emigration and pioneering experiences, personality, and community involvement. Ella Evanson also wrote the memoirs of her family and early childhood years.

Birges Hultgrin Records

Contains a small booklet written in Swedish, “Some examples on how God teach children how to pray”, and a small child’s reader, “I don’t care anyway!” both stamped with the date 1894. Birges Hultgrin is handwritten on the cover of the instructional prayer booklet.

Guy Allison Papers

Consists of Guy Allison’s scrapbook which contains articles regarding the history of the United States and its presidents. There are also articles written by other authors and collected by Guy Allison relating to Norway, war, including the column “Pitching Horseshoes” by Billy Rose about cancer treatment and his later sickness, articles from the column “Passing Parade” by Edward T. Austin, selected articles from the column “Washington Letter” by Jane Eads, and articles from the column “Daily Guide” by Elsie Hix.

Contains 144 copies of articles with their originals.

This is the original document of the affidavit of support for William Bronow for the purchase of the Norwegian American Line ticket number 8808 to bring his brother-in-law Bergliot Motness to America from Trondhjem, Norway.

Storla Family History

Contains three booklets. One lists the addresses of the Storla Family as of August 1960. Another is a booklet entitled “Mr. and Mrs. T.O. Storla” commemorating their fiftieth and sixty- sixth wedding anniversary with stories and the history of their lives covering the wedding, pioneer life, joys and sorrows, journeys, life in South Dakota, Missouri, and Canada, as well as poems, song lyrics, words of congratulations from grandchildren and great grandchildren, and copies of their homestead certificate and timber-culture certificate. Another is entitled “Storla Family History 1790-1960” and contains information about Hallingdal, Norway, Stave Church in Norway, the Storla Family in Norway, pioneers in America, the Paint Creek Settlement in Iowa, and genealogical information as well as pictures.
