General note
Mission developer Henry Hokenson met with twelve families who were interested in forming a church in southeast Portland. The only site available was at 89th and SE Powell Boulevard. The building was constructed so that it might be sold in future years as a commercial building when Pilgrim could build a more suitable worship home. The official organization Sunday of the congregation was March 20, 1949. The Charter roll included the names of 79 adults and 44 children. At this time, the name Pilgrim Evangelical Lutheran Church was chosen. In the early 1950s property was purchased for a new church and parsonage on SE 92nd Avenue and Cora Street. The parsonage was constructed first and dedicated in 1954. Early in 1958, ground was broken for the new church and the old building was sold.
