Carl O. Tweiten Papers

Consists of an autobiography of Carl Tweiten and a regional history of Sirdal, Norway. The autobiography touches on Carl’s experiences in Alaska during the 1930s including some information on well-known figures in the region. Also included is the manuscript entitled, “Sirdal, Norway” that describes the city’s past and present history.

Margie Lee Memoir - "Kinfolk"

Contains the 1990 self-published edition of the family history Kinfolk, by Margie Lee. It traces the author's travels and investigations into her ancestry, notably the European immigrants who made settled in Minnesota and Washington state. The book was later published in 2007 as "Kinfolk: tracing the footsteps of my Scandinavian and German ancestors from Minnesota to Washington" by Portland, Oregon publisher Two Totem Press.

Simon Johnson Stories

Includes a photocopied issue of "Free Passage," a quarterly journal from Spring 1980, containing novelist Simon Johnson's short stories, as well as dedications to Norman Voldal and Harold "Bobby" Johnson, and "I Skogen (In the Woods)" a poem by Johnson set to music by Norwegian composer, Sigvart A. Hofland. Also included is another article from "Dakota Arts Quarterly" (Spring 1980) written as a forward by Rodney Nelson, one of the translators of the short stories.
The short stories included in the journal are: "Inga from the Grove," "Jim's Last Day," "From Diggings," "Louis Alfred & John Otto," "The Quarantine."

Gloria Pederson Papers

Contains 5 photocopied pages of the Vårt Land issue from 18 May 1988, featuring a picture of Gloria on the front page of the issue and an article about her on page 11. The article has an interview with her and describes her feelings upon seeing the celebrations in Oslo, Norway for the first time of her life. In addition, there is an article in Ruralite, a publication distributed through Parkland Light and Power, describing her store and its origins, as well as numerous Gloria-Grams, newsletters from her store listing new inventory items, recipes, and other news and Scandinavian cultural facts.

Zakarias Martin Toftezen

Consists of a biographical account of Zacharius Martin Taftezon related to the 11 September 2000 proclamation of "Zacharius Martin Toftezon Day" in Island County, Washington. Also included is the proclamation itself, minutes from the Island County meeting resolving to establish Zacharius Martin Taftezon Day, a trasnscipt of the ceremony in Norwegian and English, a cover letter written by C.J. Gunderson to Pacific Lutheran College dated 6 June 1939, complete program notes for the dedication program of the Taftezen Memorial and the following luncheon on 27 May 1939, a biographical document entitled Facts about the Taftezen Pioneer Family, and other miscellaneous documents regarding the family.

Magnar Strand Autobiography

Consists of Magnar Strand’s autobiography written and published in 1990. The booklet was created as a part of the Write Your Life course at Seattle Community College and contains information on Magnar’s birth and early years, emigrations from Norway to Canada, back to Norway, and finally to the U.S., occupations, family life, personality, and activities.

Ole G. Slind Papers

Consists of Norwegian contracts from the sale of property belonging to Ole Slind before the family immigrated to Minnesota. The deed to his farm in Norway and selling papers are included. The materials are in Norwegian.
