Elsie M. Parkhurst Papers

Consists of personal papers relating to Elsie M. Parkhurst’s ancestors. She requested information about the arrival of her ancestors in America. The request form is included, as well as the actual copy of the list of alien passengers for the U.S. immigration officer at port of arrival, dated 1907. Included are a list of address for offices of immigration and naturalization service matters, a copy of a page from the White Star Line ship Cedric that lists the passenger Peter Severin Mittet., and a letter written by Elsie requesting the information.

Ulrikka F. Bruun Poetry

Valgkampen i U.S.A. 1928 (The Election in the U.S.A. in 1928), is a poem written by Mrs. Ulrikka F. Bruun as propaganda against the presidential candidate Al Smith, criticizing his Catholic religious views and his non-prohibitionist stance.

The poem is composed in Norwegian, with a brief explanation in English: "Al Smith is all wet / And he boasts and brags and is proud of it; / Al Smith is a "Catholic," / Hoover is a "Quaker" and dry as a stick, / So we must all vote for Hoover, / For he is a regular good, old, lucky 'Fourclover.'"

Consists of a photocopy of the the certificate of chickenpox vaccination no. 27 for Johanne Jacobsdatter. It is in Norwegian with an English translation.

Johannes B. Wist Papers

Contains a pamphlet commemorating the life of Johannes B. Wist, including a brief biography and poems by family and friends and is written in Norwegian.

Ole Overlie Family History

This document begins with one page on an English to Norwegian computer translation program developed by Don Hundven. The rest of the document is a family genealogy and history beginning with Marit and Ole Overlie. Each of their nine children and their spouses, children, and children’s children are discussed. Marit and Ole had thirty-five grandchildren. There is also information about Marit’s family, the Andrew Halvorsen Family and the Halvorsen quadruplets. There is a transcript of a news clipping about the fifty year anniversary of Ole and Marit Overlie. Finally, there is a history of Martin Kristian Hundvin (the father of the author of this manuscript) and descendants.

Frederick Wilhelm August Poppe Materials

Consists of photocopied articles from the Milbank Herald Advance and We Alaskans, including eleven photographic reprints. The articles, written by Frederick's grandson, describe Frederick’s adventures in Alaska’s gold fields as well as biographical information. The photographs include a portrait of Frederick Wilhelm August Poppe and various scenes from his time in Alaska.

Consists of an autobiography of Carl Tweiten and a regional history of Sirdal, Norway. The autobiography touches on Carl’s experiences in Alaska during the 1930s including some information on well-known figures in the region. Also included is the manuscript entitled, “Sirdal, Norway” that describes the city’s past and present history.

Margie Lee Memoir - "Kinfolk"

Contains the 1990 self-published edition of the family history Kinfolk, by Margie Lee. It traces the author's travels and investigations into her ancestry, notably the European immigrants who made settled in Minnesota and Washington state. The book was later published in 2007 as "Kinfolk: tracing the footsteps of my Scandinavian and German ancestors from Minnesota to Washington" by Portland, Oregon publisher Two Totem Press.
